In 2011 we hear too regularly of Australian soldiers being killed in Afghanistan (24 deaths in 2 years) but most of us are unaware of the horror of July 19, 1916 when 5000 Ausssies were killed, wounded or taken prisoner at Fromelles in France. Wilkinson’s 180 page book is an easy and engrossing read. Through the eyes of recruit Walter McAlister and Gallipoli veteran Sergeant Frank Crawford (no relation!) we relive the hopelessness, stupidity, bravery and pain of this day. Excerpts from diaries and letters, photos, maps and posters authenticate the unfolding debacle and asks what was the point of this bloody battle. Vocabulary development is a feature of her text and her chronology is very personal – Adolph Hitler was a despatch runner in his Bavarian (German) unit. The Fromelles legacy is contemporary with the recent (2009) archaeological research of the site, the exhumation of mass graves and the final identification of many Aussie sons. A great read about a little known tragedy that has, for too long, been eclipsed by the Anzac legend of Gallipoli.

Never pick up the box while the music is playing. Never close the lid until the music has stopped.” For these are the rules for that should never been broken. The box had been passed down to Leo from his Grandfather. Leo was fond of it due the great art work displayed. It depicted forests and towns with everything in such little detail. He obeyed the rules and he was proud of himself but all this changed when his cousin arrived. Mimi was an annoying child with the worst case of fashion and unfortunately for Leo, Mimi broke the rules. It seemed that nothing had happened except blue butterflies flying out, then a woman appeared - she was the Blue Queen. Mimi’s dog Mutt kidnapped by the Blue Queen, and the tow cousins chased after her. What does the future hold for Mimi and Leo in this world of magic and adventure? Reviewed by Johnathan I. of YR 9

Scott Pilgrim’s precious little life

Everything is great until one day when he goes to the library with his girlfriend and he sees a delivery girl. This girl starts getting into his dreams until he finally meets her at a party and finds out her name, Ramona Flowers. The next day he goes to amazon.com and buys something cool but cheap (to impress Ramona the delivery girl). When she delivers the package Scott is so happy that he doesn’t want her to leave so he doesn’t sign it and persuades her to go on a date with him. Things take a turn for the worse as he finds that he has to fight her seven evil ex boyfriends. The question is can Scott find true happiness with Ramona or will he get defeated by the bad guys?

Scary! 2 More stories to make you scream!

This book is full of short stories. I only had time to read one of them so I read VIDEO NASTY.

Video Nasty is about three friends called Martin, Kevin and David who hire a really gruesome, Japanese killing video called Snuff Park. Their parents then go out to dinner so the friends decide to watch it before their parents came back. A boy that none of them knew walked in through the front door and asked to watch the video with them. This boy knew a lot about Snuff Park. Martin, Kevin and David didn’t believe him. During the movie the three friends were seriously scared but the stranger didn’t seem to be scared at all. The boys were astonished at the fact that the stranger wasn’t scared.
Close to the end of the movie the boys snapped and started to scream loudly. The stranger was annoyed and started to leave. As soon as the stranger left the movie ended and the boys dashed for the lights. As you can tell the boys were really scared.

I hated this book, it was long winded and boring.

The Lisa Book

I absolutely loved this book when I first saw that it was a part of the Simpson series. This book explained about Lisa’s life long ambitions. It also had written in it about Lisa’s rejected catchphrases, which I would like to point out to everyone reading this book. Although it’s not very funny it makes you wonder about Lisa’s life.

Other reviewers have commented “This has obviously been a labour of love for the creators of the Simpsons, it is extremely detailed and pretty funny. The illustrations are perfect and the whole book is definitely of high quality.”

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl is the first of an eight part series so far, and is a great read. It tells the story of a young man who is trying to protect his family the only way he knows how, being a criminal. With help from his protector, ironically named Butler, he kidnaps a fairy named Holly and holds her for ransom to protect his family business from going into debt.

Of course this is only a tiny portion of Artemis’ adventures and I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good storyline filled with unexpected twists.

This book definitely deserves 10 out of 10.

InuYasha is a Japanese adventure, romance, sword and sorcery and Supernatural type novel; it is based on the TV series of the anime. The story is by Japan’s famous writer Rumiko Takahashi.
It is based on a modern Japanese girl who falls down the ancient well in their shrine and enters the feudal Japan, 500 years ago. There she meets a half-demon named InuYasha who had shattered the Shiko No Tama (the jewel of four souls). This could increase the power of the user by at least double and so they both decide to look for the jewel shards together. On their journey they come across a monk called Miroku, Shippo the fox demon and the demon slayer named Sango and together they try and find the shards of the Shiko No Tama.

Haaaaa….. I was laughing like mad when I was reading the beginning of the story…..
“Fire in the hole!!” is what it started with “I felt cold while death was only seconds away. My friend and me in a hole a hundred miles deep and a bomb coming our way….” This is how the story started but…. later…...after a huge amount of time….. it ended like this…. “ok, I admit it… I lied to you (it says this in the story!) my friend wasn’t actually saying “fire in the hole” he was actually saying something very different!” But I wasn’t lying about the dying …you’ll be in the edge of life and death. Well that’s it about the funny start. But the story is about two boys searching for treasure in their school’s yard because it was built on an ancient dump.

For students of Australian History this is an engrossing saga based on the life of convict Mary Broad. Her story comes to life and readers get a real insight into life in 18th century London, on board the first fleet and in the infant colony. Perhaps the best feature of Erickson’s writing is how she merges historical sources (ship’s logs, diaries, court records) with her description of life, love and longing as Mary Broad battles for survival and freedom. Very highly recommended.

Really a disturbing read as we live the true story of the violent upbringing of a young boy in working class Dundee (Scotland). The repetitive physical and psychological cruelty scars the victim and the reader. Perhaps victims of such abuse can identify with Charlie and draw strength from his successful transition to adulthood but to an outsider the fairy tale raises many questions and doubts. Easy to read but disturbing and repetitive.

I would rate it 10/10 and definitely a book you will enjoy.

My holiday reading of two new library books was stimulating and complementary. “Tales of the Popes” up til 1600 lived up to its subtitle of ‘an infamous history’; the politicising and corruption of many is part of our Churches sinful history.
Larry Buttrose looks at the Papacy as a human institution with all the flaws, failings, intelligence and resourcefulness of mankind. An engrossing read.

John Dickens “Jesus, A Short Life” looks at Jesus through the eyes of an historian and I was left with a faith and understanding somewhat repaired. Jesus’ life, teachings, supporters, controversy, death and resurrection are all examined through an historian’s eye. Of particular interest was his treatment of miracles and the Resurrection. The magnificent at works selected to illustrate key events in Jesus life add to the readability and stimulation of this book –refreshing and provocative.

Witches abroad is about a girl who’s a servant and she can’t marry a prince. There are three witches, Nanny Ogg, Granny Weatherwax and Margrat Garrlick. The servant girl needs to find a man to share her life with but she can’t marry a prince which makes life difficult for her. This is just a small part of the story.

I highly recommend this book for children from the age of 12 to 15. Its filled with love and adventure.

When Tony finds out that his best mate John is applying for the army he is keen too. they start training but just days before they go to war Tony falls out of a bus and hurts his spine. Because of the injury that resulted he was unable to go off to war.

When he is in the medical hut he meets a girl named Ginnie and they start going on dates until Tony finds out that his best mate John has died during war. Tony becomes very sad and he has to tell John’s parents. They were very upset and depressed.

Tony and Ginnie keep on going out on dates for a couple of months eventually getting married and living happily ever after.

Then they call a Harvard professor named Robert Langdon and a CERN Scientist called Vittoria Vetra.The story takes Vittoria and Robert on a Rollercoaster Ride through Rome in the search of the Antimatter.

Tetrarch is the second in a four book series known as “The well of echoes” created by famous author Ian Irvine. It is the story of Xervish Flydd; a disgraced Scrutator, Tiaan; A wrongly accused artisan formerly owned by her indenture to a war machine factory. Also a protagonist in this story is Cryll-Nish Hlar and Irisis Sturm, who also worked in the factory and are now on the run from the law.
The story follows these separate people’s story as they live out their life trying to defeat the war against an invading race known as the Lyrinx; huge humanoid creatures with bird-like features. The war has been going on for over two hundred years and the story follows the footsteps of these people in their bid to defeat the invading aliens.
Tiaan is an artisan working off her indenture to get back her freedom. She was born in a breeding factory and longs to find out her true identity. She is wrongly accused of insanity after being tricked into drinking poison and is now on the run from the law. Xervish Flydd is a disgraced scrutator who is trying to recover his honour. He is something along the lines of a war minister and currently, was he not disgraced, carries the second highest rank that is available in this time. He, as well as Tiaan and Irisis hold a trace of the art, a magical force that is manipulated from the forces of nature.
Irisis Sturm like Tiaan is an artisan working off her indenture, although slightly Tiaan’s junior she believes she will rise above Tiaan’s rank as master artisan and become “Crafter”. She holds little of the art and is now worried if she has completely lost her ability to control crystals and bend them to her will. Her partner in crime is the son of a man who holds the most powerful position in the time. Nish as he is more commonly known as is a very low rank in the chain belonging to the Artificer branch. He is also an undercover spy more commonly known as a “Prober” along with another man that flies under everyone’s radar including Nish’s and even the Overseer himself.
This book is the second in a line of books called “The well of echoes’. It is followed by “Scrutator” which will follow into more detail of the former scrutators life and “Chimera” which ends the series and brings forth another horror that has been directed created from the destruction of the secret art. This series is also followed by another series known as “The song of the tears’ which will follow entirely Nish’s life as he struggles to fight the world.

Kingdom hearts is a manga style book. It is about a 3 children (Sora, Riku, Kairi) living on an island who want to build a raft to go to other countries (or worlds as they call it). They got the idea from the time the third child (Kairi) got washed up ashore after the raft was destroyed. One of the boys disappeared and gave in to the dark side of his heart and the girl went inside kingdom hearts.
The boy (Sora) finds himself on a part of his island with a giant heartless and a key, known as the key blade. After it is defeated he finds himself in a town called Traverse – a town for those whose world has been devoured by darkness. There he meets Cid, Leon, Yuffie, Aerith and his team mates Donald and Goofy who were found during a battle with the heartless. They say they were searching for their king and will help him find his 2 friends Riku and Kairi. They set off for a new world called Wonderland where they find evidence to prove that the heartless want the Queen of heart’s heart.

After a fight with cards Alice goes missing and Sora, Donald and Goofy leave to go back to Traverse and be taught about the keyhole that was sealed in Wonderland. Leon finds Riku, who turns out to secretly be working for the creator of the heartless. Sora gets a secret block installed on his ship. What world will Sora travel to next? This was a magnificent manga filled with final fantasy and Disney characters and I give it a 10/10

The strange thing is that they can run really fast, getting anywhere in seconds.

The Detachable boy

This book is about a young boy named John Johnson. He is a boy who can literally detach all of his limbs apart from head to toes. He is a unique boy who can do anything with his body and a very interesting pal to his two friends.

Ravi is one of John’s friends. Ravi is really smart and can solve many difficult problems that John is going to face. John’s other friend is Crystal. She is a slim, tall, beautiful young girl who is a special friend to John and loves to eat. Crystal happened to be kidnapped by a really unusual stranger, who has more limbs on his body than anyone could imagine. John and Ravi do their best to find a way to sneak away from home and save Crystal from the kidnapper’s clutches.

I really enjoyed this novel, because the story is very adventurous and full of hidden mysteries that are funny and really interesting to read about.

Hubert Wilkins (1888-1958) comes across as a composite of Biggles, James Bond and Indianna Jones and why so few Australians know of him amazes me. Nasht's research enables an engrossing description of Wilkin's life as a photographer in WWI (twice decorated for bravery), pioneer aviator and survivor of three plane crashes, 33 expeditions in polar regions, original submarines seeking the North Pole, knighted by the Kings of England and Italy ... What drove this man is still relevant today as he sought to understand and forecast weather patterns which he belieived originated in the polar regions.

Very highly recommended and very readable.

Soldier Boy

This is a story about one of Australia’s youngest soldiers, Jim Martin. Jim was 14 years of age but on his army registration papers he put down that he was 18. His parents tried to stop him but he threatened to move out and register under another name if they did not sign the papers.
If you want to find out the rest of the book, then you’re going to have to read it and find out for yourself.
This is a great story that I would recommend for people aged 13 and above. It is a book about an amazingly brave young soldier who risks his own life to fight for this great land that he loved, Australia.

Christopher Pike’s hit series ‘Spooksville’ started in 1995. All together Pike has written 24 books for the series. The Haunted Cave is about when the new kid Adam comes along and has no idea of what trouble he’s about to get himself into.

Springville is a name only used by the parents of all the children. The children adopted the name ‘Spooksville’ as they have all been face to face with evil itself. This adventure is when Adam, Cindy and a few others of the crew wander into a cave. As they soon discover that there’s evil inside and they name it ‘The Haunted Cave.’ Bats, trolls and witches may sound fun…But they’re not, especially in this story.

I first read this series in 2005, which soon became my favourite book series. Christopher Pike also quickly became my favourite author, and he still is to this day. I think that this book and this series could quickly become anyone’s favourite. Christopher has written books for all ages.

Boy Overboard is about a boy and his sisters, Jamal and Bibi who come from the war torn country of Afghanistan. His mother runs an illegal secret school for children and his father drives a taxi and sells baked bread in the back of his car. Bibi is a confident 8 year old who doesn’t care about anything but she loves soccer. Jamal is a soccer addict who wishes he can play for the Afghanistan National Team one day. He has a friend Yusuf who has one leg but can still play soccer.

The story starts off with the government finding out about the mother’s secret school and ends up blowing up the house. So Jamal’s parents leave but their mother is caught and taken to be tortured.Their father goes to rescue her in the city. He goes through the soccer stadium and gets her. They end up going to a refugee camp and catching a boat to Australia. In the process the parents and the children are split and go on separate boats. On the way to Australia Jamal and Bibi meet some new friends. After a few days on the boat it is abandoned and high jacked by pirates. The Australian navy saves Jamal and Bibi and takes them to an island off the coast of Australia. They wonder if their parents are all right since the navy told them no one made it on that boat, but they were wrong. They were re-united on the island waiting to enter Australia. They were so happy that they had freedom to do anything now, even girls can go outside to play soccer.

It’s a wonderful book I rate it 10/10. Read It!!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This book is the final instalment of the Harry Potter series. It is awesome to read, and if you are a Harry Potter fan, this book will be hard to put down. I also enjoy the style J.K.Rowling writes the Harry Potter series. This book is full of adventures and mini-tasks that Harry, Ron and Hermione go through. The fun part in reading is, that the novel is so gripping, that every chapter reveals a new secret. I personally would rate it 10 out of 10. This novel contains 36 action filled chapters with a nail biting finish. Every safe corner you think you turn, dangers always lurk within. The criminal mastermind behind it all, (voldemort) is more evil than ever , gathering more and more followers. This novel’s journey has many up’s and down’s for Harry. This book is a must for anyone who likes adventure.

Gunna Burn is the latest edition to Wendy’s Aussie Rules series. Greg Lukin the main character is a young teenager with hopes and dreams of making the AFL one day. In the off-season he trains recklessly thinking weights will get him his dream. Every week that goes by he is getting bigger and fitter.

Just before the season starts he has a season threatening injury. But he toughs through it and his motto is no pain means no gain. He hides his injury from everyone but his girlfriend. She is moving states so they have to break up and this effects Greg immensely.

In the week before the grand final he is involved in a massive brawl and is lucky not to be in hospital. In the final he cannot play with a clear mind because he is constantly thinking about his ex girlfriend. He nearly costs his team the game but comes home hard in the final stages of the match and wins the game. In four years’ time he has matured into a young adult. Does he make the AFL draft? You will have to read this thrilling book to find out. I rate this book an 8 out of 10 and if you don’t like reading much because you think books are boring I highly recommend you read this because it is a simple book with hopes and dreams that come true.

Tomodachi the Edge of the World

Tomodachi is Japanese for ‘friend’, which is a story based on friendship and war. There are two main protagonists, Daniel Marlowe and Kenji. The antagonists are numerous though the main ones are brigands and warlords along with their feuding armies.

Daniel, a white boy, is shipwrecked in Japan, in the year 1543. He meets Kenji; a young samurai and both embark on a journey together that leads them to freedom. However Japan is torn by civil war, where only the powerful and wise can survive.

Armies fight against each other to gain control of the empire and brigands loot innocent civilians. In between this crisis stand Daniel and Kenji, who work together to encounter more then just, armies and other samurais. So begins their unlikely friendship, a dangerous journey, and a series of gripping adventures across a beautiful land haunted by the shadow of war.

This book is a very fascinating, readable novel and I am sure those in the 10+ age group would enjoy it. The story also has various Japanese terms that are explained in the glossary, which makes reading even more educational and entertaining.

Hurricane Gold is the latest in Charlie Higson’s Young Bond series. In the middle of nowhere, on the Caribbean island of Lagrimas Negras, is a place where many criminals with blood on their hands flee to hide and keep a low profile. In the meanwhile, James Bond is with his aunt recovering from the injuries that he had received on his latest adventure. During the rest, a tropical storm hit and the family he is staying with are kidnapped and then he has no choice but to give chase and save them.
Charlie Higson has created an excellent series based on the life of a young James Bond. Basing his ideas on the James Bond we all know now, Charlie Higson writes many stories that retell the experiences that James Bond went through as a child.
I enjoy at the start how the story starts off with what is happening on the island and then goes on to what is happening with James Bond. The words used within this story are very descriptive therefore you can really imagine what is happening. There are many twists and turns where you don’t even know what’s even going to happen.
I give this book 4/5 because it is extremely interesting to read. It just makes you want to NOT drop the book and keep reading till the end.

The book is about a Harvard professor who is wrongly accused of a murder after his name appears on the floor next to the dead body. The book will keep you reading as each chapter ends with a cliff hanger. The book will keep you hooked from the prologue about a man being brutally murdered, to the epilogue about the mission finally being over. This book is a great read for anyone fifteen and above because there are a few complex words but can be understood in their context.

Before the James Bond series, the Young Bond series introduces the reader to James Bond when he was only a teenager going to the school of Eton in England. He has a feel for mischief; James Bond is always getting himself in danger, and in such cases almost getting himself killed. It introduces the reader to his friends which help him in life threatening schemes and also later on appear in the next books of the series: ‘Blood Fever’, ‘Double or Die’, ‘Hurricane Gold’ and ‘By Royal Command’. This tells the story of how James Bond and his friends risk their lives to solve the mysteries they find.

James Bond has no parents as they were tragically killed in a climbing incident so he’s alone, only with his Aunt to give him company in the holidays. This book shows the reader that whenever you put your mind to something you can do it no matter how hopeless it seems, and you should never give up no matter how bad the case seems. This is an excellent book and I would recommend to all boys throughout the ages of 13-16, it would please all readers who have a feel for excitement and danger and would certainly make them feel good about reading it.

The characters are deeper than in Ice Station, and you do feel you humanize them a little more as you get to know them. The bad guys are plentiful and perhaps a little too playful for their own sake. New enemies appear behind the scenes and tamper with everyone’s intentions, causing mayhem and a read that you will be thinking about when you’re not page turning. I don’t want to give away much about the characters as I’m sure when you read it your imagination will want to go its own direction, but I recommend this book to readers of all ages as it is simply a must read if you like high octane.

It is one of my favourites. This book is really tricky, very funny and its one of the best tongue twisters that you will probably ever hear. It is about a cat in a hat trying to get a guy named Sam to eat green eggs and ham. Sam refuses but the cat keeps trying to make him eat it. The cat and Sam go on a tongue twisting journey to make Sam eat green eggs and ham. This is a very good book to read and I recommend that you read it to find out what happens in the end.

The witches is a magnificent book which was authored by one of the all time greats, Roald Dahl.

The characters barely had names but are as follows boy, grandmother, Bruno Jenkins , the grand high witch and the hotel manager .

The witches is an extraordinary read for a recommended age group between Year 6 to year 9. I would dare say everyone would enjoy this as much as I did.

My personal rating out of 10 would be a near perfect but will have to give a 9.5.

Thomas had a month to test if he liked training with The Spook.
The Spook’s job is to look after the world from evil including: Witches and Evil Priests.

WhenTom met the Witch’s niece and was tricked into feeding the witch children’s meat and blood, the witch becomes even stronger and seems to be unstoppable.

I think that this book is an incredibly great book with great use of nouns and adjectives. I also think that this book would be liked by 10+ boys and girls.

Life aboard ship, the Venus observations on Tahiti, the frustrating delay caused by Great Barrier Reef damage, the circumnavigation of New Zealand, the diseases of Batavia all become very real. Learning to measure longitude and latitude, shipboard discipline and the Endeavours crew’s relationship with the indigenous populations add authenticity. An appendix of websites which give access to the journals of Cook and other navigators is a bonus for history buffs. Very highly recommended.

The Children of Húrin, which is written by the legendary J.R.R Tolkien, is a wonderful adventure book which includes betrayal, romance, war, tragedy and lost love. It is about a family broken up and rejoicing at the end, but ends very sadly. It is one of the best books I have ever read and I enjoyed reading it as I like the genre which it is placed in, fantasy.
The book has an excellent storyline to it and can really take your concentration from everything else and bring it to the text from the book and keep it there; you wouldn’t want to put the book down. The book was written by J.R.R Tolkien during World War II while he was in the trenches of his army, but published later on. I would recommend this book to anyone and I would be certain I would get a good result back from the reader.

The story is about young teenagers who find out that their parents are evil mutants, along with all that they're developing the mutant abilities. Some of the mutant abilities are super strength, alien powers that regenerate with the sun.

For people who love comics I would definitely read this book for the thrill of having fun while reading!!!!!

The story begins when a Harvard professor named Robert Langdon was woken by a detective named French, saying that a curator had been brutally murdered and has a religious symbol on his chest. He had just given a lecture on religious art.

When the Harvard professor arrives at the natural museum of art, he sees the horrific sight of Jacques Signore, who was the grand master of the priory of Sion. They desperately attempt to find Jacques Signore’s killer. On the way they find a horrible truth about Christianity and where the Holy Grail is located. They also discover what the Holy Grail is. Robert Langdon has found the keystone to where the location of the Holy Grail is. In this case the Holy Grail means a woman named Mary Magdaline.

At the end of the story they locate the teacher and discover where the grail is.

We know the popularity of the Guiness Book of Records so this addition will be much sought after. I grabbed it as a resource for a recent staff Trivia Night and have found it an amazing collection of history, facts and trivia. The book is really reader-friendly with lots of illustrations, time-lines and brief descriptions covering chapters as diverse as food, transport, law and order, sport and technology.
Very highly recommended for history or trivia buffs.

This novel is a continuation of Part 1 of the novel Lord of the Rings : the Fellowship of the Ring where it tells a recap of what has happened so far. Frodo receives a ring from Gandalf and says that is his responsibility to keep the ring. Frodo later on accepts his challenge to embark on a journey and destroy the demise of the ring in the great fires of Mordor.

The three companions – Legolas with his bow and arrow, Aragorn (Strider) with the help of his sword, Gimli with the help of his axe, Gandalf, Boromir and many others embark to protect the younger ones.

As they start their journey things start to get a little out of shape as Gandalf goes down and the fall of Boromir occurs when the main leaders of the orcs shoots him with his bow and arrow.

Part II of the novel commences as Frodo and Sam get stranded by ors in another place, all looking so cautious at the hobbits. When the orcs leave the two hobbits make a dramatic escape. The hobbits continue running as they arrive place filled with trees and rest awhile. They meet new friends, called Treebeard with all his ents (trees). Then Treebeard joints with the hobbits for the great battle of Middle Earth.

Meanwhile the three companions also meet their new friends “The Riders of Rohan” and together they travel. Later on Legolas and Aragon spot something very surprising “GANDALF”. From here on while the three companions walk, Gandalf tells his amazing story of how he escaped.

The next day, Legolas hears that the orcs are marching. So Gandalf and with his three companions build their army and have the battle of Middle Earth.

I give this book 4 ½ out of 5.

This book is about the story of a small rural town in Australia, focusing on a group of friends who live there. During the summer holidays the group plan to go camping for the summer in the bush, to a secret place they found called “Hell”.

The group spend two weeks out in the bush while the rest of the town gets ready for the yearly show. The group pack up and return to the town, which seems to be a completely different world as it is abandoned and invaded by outsiders.

From this event begins the Tomorrow Series, beginning with this book, and tells of the adventures of this group struggling to survive in their town taken over by others.

For those of you who have seen the movie I can guarantee that you will enjoy the book a lot more. It is packed with deliciously witty humour that all relates to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything. Some parts of the storyline can become muddled and difficult to grasp if you don’t remember the smallest of details but that is part of what makes it such a great story. To list all the characters we meet throughout the book would take an age and a half but our brave, valiant and very muddled heroes of the universe are Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Trillian, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin the Paranoid Android.

As the author puts it, “to truly understand this novel you should have a basic understanding of everything in the universe.” But please, regardless of whether you do or don’t dive in to discover what a big, startling and frighteningly large universe we live in.

Well let me just start off with, what a great and magical journey Harry Potter has been for me, and probably you. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the final instalment in the Harry Potter series, and it ends it stunningly.This book continues several weeks after the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, obviously. After Dumbledore’s sad departure, he left Harry an overwhelming task to undertake and complete. Harry must find and destroy Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes.Horcruxes is a totally different level of dark magic. It splits the soul in half, but leaving the body severely weakened. In the sixth book, we learn that Voldemort split his soul into seven and put portions of his soul into legendary items which once belonged to great wizards.Harry, Ron and Hermoine, the only three people that Dumbledore entrusted this perilous journey to, venture forth. Many sad, revealing deaths and injuries occur, leaving families torn apart from grief.
My personal opinion of the book is it’s a great and thrilling end to the series, although the very ending could have been done a bit better. I’m sad that the series over, but glad I had the chance to read this. I recommend this to anyone who loves magic, fantasy and of course, the Harry Potter series!And so, the concluding final battle to end the series takes place. “One cannot live while the other survives.” Who will win? Will Harry, Ron and Hermoine succeed? Will the Dark Lord rise to power? All the answers will be told, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.READ IT!Rating: 9.4/10

Tetrarch is the second of a 4 series book called The Well of Echoes. The book follows the book Geomancer and is followed by the books Scrutator and Chimera.

It is a about a war between the Lyrinx (large humanoid bird-like creatures) who are trying to take over the human world (Santhenar). The humans known as the old-humans by their superior human race (Aachim) who have fled their world (Aachan) due a massive volcanic eruption, use a 20 year old girl known as Tiaan to build a gate so that the Aachim could travel over to Santhenar.

The Aachim who tricked Tiaan into making the gate have now attempted to take control of Santhenar by becoming neutral in the human-Lyrinx war, waiting until both forces are weakened then bringing their entire force of constructs (machines that hover off the ground and can fire powerful javelards) to destroy the survivors. Cryl Nish Hlaar, commonly known as Nish is trying to find Tiaan to bring her back to the factory which makes weapons for the war. Tiaan has already fixed several important issues that were killing the human army. She ran away because she was falsely accused of having crystal fever (hallucinations induced by crystals usually known as hedrons). Irisis Stirm is Nish’s companion in finding Tiaan. Scrutator Xervish Flydd (scrutator: second in command in controlling the worlds army) has been helping Irisis and Nish in their mission. Xervish Flydd who is also Irisis’ lover is on another mission to destroy the Lyrinx Torgnadyr which absorbs the nodes energy which helps control clankers (monstrous machines of war) to move and fire their javelards and catapults.

The Torgnadyr is in the Lyrinx stronghold which is where the humans are going to attack next with the help of the Aachim who the humans managed to persuade to help them because of their distant relation. Unfortunately when Xervish Flydd placed upon the Torgnadyr which was supposed to destroy the Torgnadyr instead destroyed the entire node and the clankers and constructs are now helpless and must use all their strength to haul the clankers and constructs away from the attacking Lyrinx.

Deltora Quest, The lake of tears

This is the second book of the deltora quest series. After beating the guardian of the forest of silence with the help of Barda and Jasmine, Lief got the first gem, the Topaz which clears the mind. Barda was an old beggar and Jasmine is a girl who grew up in the dangerous forest of silence and can also talk with some animals and trees like her bird Kree and her unusual creature Filli. The guardian they battled with at the forest was strong, skilled and had guarded its treasure for hundreds of years. The treasure it guards is a powerful flower with nectar that can heal any wound.

Their next goal is the lake of tears where they will find the next gem and the next dangerous guardian. On the way to the lake they run into about 20 grey guards taking a little ralad man as hostage. Just to inform you grey guards work for the shadow lord and have poisonous ammo to throw at you. They save the man and end up to be cooked alive by 2 monsters who are 2 of the 13 children of Theagan. They escape to battle with a monster called Soldeen and Theagan. Do they survive the battle?

Later that day, Johnny is assassinated, Tim is blamed for the death and every criminal in their town is on the lookout for the ‘package’ that Tim’s wisecracking younger brother, Nick, now has.

But what is so special about this small ordinary box of Maltesers?

Anthony Horrowitz has written another suspenseful and gripping tale in The Falcon’s Malteser, a ‘spy-based’ book. There are many twists and turns ahead for the Diamond brothers as they try to solve the mystery of the Maltesers. This is the perfect story for anyone with a quick sense of humour (it contains many ‘funny’ jokes).

This book receives a 9/10 from me as it was extremely chaotic and it was hilarious to read about the Diamond Brothers and the sticky situations that they got into.

Deep Waters - Zac Power

This book is about a boy who’s name is Zac Power. He is a spy and a student at the same time . He goes to the sea aquarium with his school on an excursion. Zac thinks is was boring so his spy role kicks in and he jumps in the aquarium and a shark bites him. Everybody is panicking.

He masters piloting an anphibious submersible. He is on a mission to stop a marine tech evil group from designing a techno. On his mission he saves a woman and a man. He suffers an injury soon after and gets caught by marine tech, but escapes and completes his mission and gets a new ipod.

I like this because it was great and very exciting.

With the harsh weather resulting in them being locked in for the winter, the hotel’s presence seem to come alive, and the strange powers of the boy described as “the shining” lead to an exciting conclusion that will draw the reader in.

Red dragon is the first book on Hannibal Lecter. It is a gruesome tale of a psychotic doctor named Hannibal Lecter. It is an exciting crime story that has a great story line. Throughout the book it has some gruesome paragraphs that if you close your eyes you can picture everything in the murder. It is a very gory book. The story isn’t just about the murders it’s also the mystery in the first few chapters of the book on working out who did what.
There are other books in the series that are very, very, very good to read. They are: Silence Of The Lambs

The Cry of the Icemark is a really good book for people who like fantasy books and thrillers. This book is about a lot of things like how a teenage girl finds allies to help her defend her country of Icemark using vampires, werewolves and giant snow leopards.

This is a wonderful book and is very adventurous and is good reading for everyone who likes to let their imagination run free. Read this book and you will know what I mean.

Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban is a great book to read especially if you like magic, adventure and scary books. Harry starts his third year at Hogwarts. Harry couldn’t wait to get back to this school because it was better than living with the Dursleys. But when he gets to Hogwarts everybody is tense because a murderer is on the loose in the name of Sirius Black. Dementors have guarded the school. When Harry gets close to one he gets into a coma and feels cold and sad all over the place.

At the end of the book Harry finds out a great mysterious secret. Read this book and find out.
